Our Story

Our Story

Rev. Jay Crout is an ordained minister in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he received his call to be the church planter for the brand new Village Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina.

Jay spent his summers swimming for the Gower Swim Team, and he attended the local public schools including JL Mann High School where he graduated in 2003.  He continued his education at Clemson University where he finished with an undergraduate degree in Communications Studies in 2006 and a master’s degree in Human Resource Development in 2008.

WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE!

Welcome to our Website! Thank you so much for coming to visit our brand new website for the Village Presbyterian Church. So much work has gone into our new church plant, and it is exciting to finally roll out our public face as we prepare to launch our church this fall. One staple of our…

IT ALL BEGAN WITH A PRAYER DRIVE

I always enjoy telling the story of how the Lord brought Verdae Presbyterian Church into existence, and for the longest time I began that story with my own sense of calling to this church plant in early 2015. Don’t get me wrong! I knew that God had been…

A CLEAR CALLING

There are certain times in life when God blesses you with a tremendous amount of clarity. May 2015 was one of those times for me. But let me back up a little bit first! I began seminary in January 2012, and three years later, in January 2015, I set out on my…

A LOCATION BECOMES CLEAR

It was July 2015 that I began my new position with our denomination. The position that I was initially hired for is what we call a “Church Planting Explorer.” In essence, this title is intended to communicate my major task – explore where and how the Lord is calling the ARP…

A THREE-LEGGED TABLE

This blog post is the fifth installment of a series titled “Our Story”, which tells how Village Presbyterian Church has come to exist. Visit our website to see the previous four blogs, and stay tuned for new postings each Thursday! The purpose of today’s blog in the story of our church is not…

VERDAE PRESBYTERIAN – CIRCA 1993

In April 2016, as I mentioned in our last blog, we had just received the full approval to move forward with a church plant in the Verdae area. The certainty of knowing where the Lord was calling us to serve provided a great amount of clarity for me as a…

OUR FIRST SPEEDBUMP

If you have been keeping up with these blogs then I bet there might be one thing that has crossed your mind. Everything Jay has written about so far occurred before May 2016, but they are just now getting ready to launch weekly worships services. Why so long a break? Well –…

A PAUSE BUTTON

When I was in high school my favorite video game was the annual NCAA Football game from EA Sports. I would be so excited for that Tuesday in July when the new edition would hit the stores, and I always had it on preorder to be sure I could have a copy…

OUR FIRST MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY

On January 1, 2017 Verdae Presbyterian Church became an official church plant! We didn’t have any members yet. We didn’t have a worship service yet. We didn’t even have an opportunity to do ministry anywhere yet. But we were officially a church plant and we could now begin moving towards all…

FULL STEAM AHEAD

By the summer of 2017 things had really begun moving forward. We had our very first worship services to lead at the Cascades. Our Tuesday evening Bible studies had grown into a consistently sized group each week. And I received a brand new question I had not heard before – “What does…

THE FINAL CHAPTER

After 3 months and 11 posts, today’s blog marks the final chapter of the “Our Story” series detailing the beginnings of Verdae Pres. It has been really fun for me to recount the way in which the Lord has brought us into formation. And as we draw this story to a conclusion…
